On the authority of Abu Hurairah (ra) that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (a continuous charity), or knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him’. [Muslim]

Sadaqah Jariyah is a one-of-a-kind, lasting charity that brings continuous reward to those who donate it, as the charity supports those in need and future generations for a long time. This means that every time somebody benefits from your donation, you are rewarded, even after you are no longer living.
