During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food, drink, and other physical needs as an act of worship and obedience to God, following the tradition established by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Eid ul Fitr is a day of joy and thanksgiving to Allah for the strength and endurance shown during the month of Ramadan.
The celebrations of Eid ul Fitr 2025, marked on the Eid date, will typically begin with a special prayer known as the Eid prayer, performed in congregation at mosques or open prayer grounds. After the prayer, Muslims greet each other with the phrase “Eid Mubarak,” which means “Blessed Eid” or “Happy Eid.”
Eid ul Fitr is also a time for charity, known as Zakat al Fitr, where Muslims are required to give a specific amount of charity to the less fortunate before the Eid prayers. This ensures that everyone can partake in the festivities and enjoy a meal on the day of Eid.
In addition to prayers and charity, Eid al-Fitr is a time for family gatherings, feasting on special foods, exchanging gifts, and visiting friends and relatives. It is a time of spreading love, forgiveness, and unity within the Muslim community.

It was narrated by Aisha (R.A.) who reported that Prophet (S.A.W.) said to Abu Bakr (R.A.) (On the day of Eid when Abu Bakr (R.A.) saw two girls were singing the stories about the Day of Buath in Madinah):
“….. O Abu Bakr! Every people have their Eid and this is our Eid.”

One should adhere to the teachings of the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) in every aspect of life, including Eid Prayer. Here are some of the Sunnah of the Prophet (S.A.W.) regarding Eid prayer that every Muslim should observe:
Follow our step-by-step guide for this special prayer on Eid ul Fitr 2025 to gain all the rewards and blessings that Allah (SWT) may grant us, paying special attention to the eid date, as observed by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Step 1: Intention: Begin by making an intention to perform two Rakat behind the Imam for Eid prayer, along with six additional Takbirs.
Step 2: Following the Imam’s first “Allahu Akbar,” raise your hands and join in. This marks the initial Takbir of the prayer.
Step 3: Before the Imam begins reciting the Quran, there will be three Takbirs. Each time the Imam says “Allahu Akbar,” raise your hands in sync and then place them by your sides. Upon the third Takbir, as the Imam starts reciting, rest your hands on your chest, with the right hand over the left.
Step 4: Listen attentively to the recitation of the Holy Quran. The Imam will commence with Surah Al-Fatiha, followed by another Surah.
Step 5: When the Imam says “Allahu Akbar,” proceed to perform Ruku (the bowing position).
Step 6: Upon hearing “Sami Allahu liman Hamidah” (Allah hears those who praise Him) from the Imam, stand upright and quietly say “Rabbana lakal Hamd” (our Lord, praise be to You).
Step 7: As the Imam says “Allahu Akbar,” move into Sujud (prostration). Complete two prostrations as you would in a regular prayer.
Step 1: Following the Imam’s recitation from the Holy Quran (beginning with Surah Al-Fatiha and another Surah),
Step 2: Before proceeding to Ruku, there will be three Takbirs. In sync with the Imam, raise your hands after each “Allahu Akbar.” Upon the third Takbir, bow into Ruku.
Step 3: Upon hearing “Sami Allahu liman Hamidah” from the Imam, stand upright and quietly say “Rabbana lakal Hamd.”
Step 4: When the Imam says “Allahu Akbar,” transition into Sujud (prostration) for two prostrations.
Step 5: Subsequently, sit for the complete Tashahhud.
Step 6: Upon the Imam concluding the prayer by turning first to his right, saying “Assalamu alaikum wa Rahmatullah,” then to his left and doing the same.
Step 7: Refrain from rising immediately. The Imam will deliver a brief Khutbah (sermon), often reflecting on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Remain seated and attentive, as it is recommended to do so.
This should not be confused with the annual Zakat payment.
Before the conclusion of the month of Ramadan according to the Gregorian calendar, every adult Muslim who possesses food beyond their basic needs is obligated to give what is known as Zakat ul Fitr or Fitrana. This payment is required for oneself and can also be made on behalf of dependents.
Zakat ul Fitr / Fitrana must be settled prior to the Eid prayer, specifically for occasions such as Eid ul Fitr 2025, which is determined by the eid date. It should be given in the form of a staple food item commonly consumed by the community.

The Fitrana cannot be allocated to individuals for whom the payer is already responsible, such as one’s spouse, children, parents, and the like. In this aspect, its regulations mirror those of Zakat al-Mal. Additionally, it is not permissible to distribute it to non-believers or those who are wealthy
